Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how CourtQuest ("we," "us," or "the app") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use the CourtQuest mobile application. CourtQuest helps you find open tennis courts nearby using live busyness data, weather, and travel time. By using CourtQuest, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of data:
a) Account Information
- Email address (used to create and authenticate your account)
- Password (stored securely in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never have access to your plaintext password)
b) Profile Information
- Name
- Username
- Age (optional)
- Home location as free-text (e.g. "City, State") (optional)
- Favorite sports
c) Precise Device Location
- We access your device's precise location only while you are using the app ("While Using the App"), and only after you grant location permission. It is used to calculate distances and drive times, recommend the closest and least busy courts near you, and retrieve local weather for a court. Your precise device location is not stored on our servers, though it is transmitted to service providers as described in Section 4 (Google, for drive-time routing; the National Weather Service, for forecasts) to deliver these features. You may deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device Settings; the app remains usable without it, though nearby-court recommendations will be unavailable.
d) Activity Information
- Courts you favorite ("Saved Courts")
- Quests you start, progress on, or complete, including start and end times
- Issue reports you submit through the app (the category and the text you write), associated with your account
2. How We Collect Data
We collect data (a), (b), and (d) directly from you when you register, complete onboarding, edit your profile, or use in-app features. Precise device location (c) is accessed from your device's location services with your explicit permission and is processed to deliver the features in Section 3; it is not stored on our servers.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your information to:
- Create, authenticate, and secure your account
- Provide core app functionality, including personalized court recommendations, drive-time routing, weather for courts, and quest tracking
- Display an active quest on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island via a Live Activity (showing the court name and sport). This runs on your device and is not transmitted to us.
- Review and act on issue reports you submit
- Save your preferences and favorites across sessions
- Maintain and improve the app's performance and reliability
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for third-party advertising.
4. Third-Party Services
CourtQuest relies on the following third parties:
- Supabase (supabase.com) — our backend infrastructure provider for authentication and database storage. Your account, profile, favorites, quests, and issue reports (Sections 1a, 1b, 1d) are stored on Supabase's servers.
- Google Maps Platform (Distance Matrix API) — to calculate drive distance and travel time to courts, the app sends your current coordinates and the courts' coordinates to Google. This request is routed through our secure server-side function; no Google API key is stored in the app. Only the coordinates are sent — no account information or personal identifier (such as your name, email, or user ID) is transmitted to Google alongside them. Court information and busyness data displayed in the app are also sourced from Google Maps.
- U.S. National Weather Service (weather.gov) — when you view a court, the app sends that court's coordinates to the National Weather Service API to retrieve a local forecast. No account or personal identifier is sent.
- Your chosen navigation app (e.g. Apple Maps or Google Maps) — when you request directions to a court, the app hands off to that app, whose own privacy policy then governs your data.
- Vercel Web Analytics (vercel.com) — used on this website only, not in the app. It records aggregate visit data: page views, the referring site, approximate country, device type and browser, and which links visitors click (such as the App Store button). It uses no cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not create a profile of you or collect any personal identifier.
Each third party with whom we share user data provides protection of that data equal to or greater than the protections described in this policy and required by the Apple App Store Review Guidelines. We do not share your personal data with any other third parties, parent, subsidiary, or related entities.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your personal data for as long as your account remains active.
You can permanently delete your account and all associated personal data directly within the app at any time: go to the Profile tab, tap "Delete Account," type DELETE to confirm. This immediately and irreversibly removes your account, profile, saved courts, and quest history from our systems.
Alternatively, you may request account deletion by contacting us at the email address below.
6. Revoking Consent
- You may revoke location access at any time via your device's Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
- You may withdraw consent to further data processing by deleting your account as described in Section 5.
7. Children's Privacy
CourtQuest is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS/TLS) and secure credential storage. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
